Abstract By using topology optimization, we consider the problem of designing a passive acoustic device that allows for one-way flow sound waves; such is often colloquially referred to as an diode. The Helmholtz equation used model time harmonic linear wave propagation together with Dirichlet-to-Neumann (DtN) type boundary condition, and finite element method discretization. objective this study maximize in one direction (from left right) minimize reverse right left) planar incoming waves. moving asymptotes (MMA) solves optimization problem, continuation approach penalizing intermediate design variables. results optimized waveguide show more than 99.8 % power waves get transmitted from while less 0.3 gets specified frequency range. Since true diode non-reciprocal here model, which basically reciprocal, discuss details about how it appears be possible obtain waveguiding effect model.
